Hello. I’m Elizabeth Zanetti, a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP), a Gut Health Restorative Wellness Practitioner (RWS-1)
This is about me, where it all started, and gaining insight into the role of a Functional Nutritionist.
Food is medicine, and you will find me at the local Community Gardens volunteering at their weekly market garden, selling local fresh produce, as pictured above. I keep fit by going to Zumba, Konga, and yoga classes and using a weighted hula hoop at home that’s fun and easy to use.
My story is that I was unhealthy most of my life. If someone near me had cold symptoms, then I would be in bed sick for two weeks. I was prescribed pills and medicine, but it didn’t help, and I didn’t know how to get healthier. As a woman, I suffered painful periods, ovarian cysts, and most likely other undiagnosed health issues. I am now post-menopausal, and the journey was not easy. I have always had a passion for natural health. I didn’t know enough, so I studied Functional Nutrition, became an FNTP, and then studied lab testing as an RWS. I wanted to share my passion for natural health and the idea of food as medicine and to help empower people to take control of their health and thrive.
I focus on women’s health to support you on this journey. I’m here to help you understand the underlying issues and give you ideas to help you make realistic changes sustainably so that you feel empowered about taking charge of your health and wellness. By using bio-individual nutrition and a root cause approach, I can help you reduce your health concerns such as fatigue, bloating, constipation, PMS, acne, anxiety, heartburn, weight loss or unexplained weight gain, and so much more. Using food as medicine, lab testing, and therapeutic supplements can be powerful in restoring body balance. I am passionate about helping you along your journey.
I am still on my journey through the life stages and continue to balance my body through the use of nutrient-dense foods, stress reduction, and therapeutic supplements. So, let’s go on this wonderful journey together. Your body is meant to heal from within.
What is Functional Nutrition?
Functional Nutritional Therapy is a foundational, holistic approach to wellness that focuses on supporting the body's natural healing processes through a properly prepared, nutrient-dense, whole-food diet and well-balanced lifestyle. It centres on the individual needs and biochemistry of each person. Unlike traditional nutrition approaches that primarily focus on macronutrients and calorie intake, functional nutrition takes into account a person's medical history, symptoms, and lifestyle to develop a customised bio-individual plan for optimal health. It acknowledges that food is not simply a source of calories but a powerful tool that can influence overall health and vitality. It considers the connection and interaction between various body systems and aims to identify deficiencies and imbalances within the body.
When the body becomes imbalanced, and deficiencies arise, our body first communicates with us through signs and symptoms such as fatigue, bloating, weight gain, PMS, brain fog, heartburn, poor sleep, anxiety, constipation, and the list goes on! The role of a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (FNTP) is to look at the body from a whole, address imbalances and deficiencies, and use bio-individual nutrition focusing on nutrient-dense whole foods and lifestyle modifications to support their client's journey to optimal health. This supports the body's ability to restore balance, supports optimal function and prevents disease. We do not heal you; we assist the body’s innate intelligence and ability to heal itself, and as a result, you can thrive!
We can work together to investigate what these symptoms are signalling and address any dysfunction. The body is wonderful at communicating with us, and we just need to listen.
An FNTP & RWS is trained to assess client symptoms, discomforts, and goals, identify nutritional strengths and deficiencies, make recommendations for dietary & lifestyle changes and nutritional supplements where needed (no medical diagnoses or prescriptions), and collaboratively develop a plan of action to support optimal health. If you suffer from any medical conditions, you should consult with an appropriate medical professional before acting upon any information provided by your FNTP. The information provided by your FNTP may differ from traditional therapeutic care and may impact your medication needs.
